Tomorrow will be our first day of outreach in Malta. We have updated the 3 lessons we used in the U.S. and combined them into one lesson to introduce the kids here in Malta to robotics. Our goal is to give them a broad background of how a robot is designed, built, programmed and tested in hopes to spark interest in robotics and computer science.
In order to gauge the success of our outreach event, we will be asking the teachers to evaluate us by filling out a survey. Ian and I have been researching about ways to assess informal learning workshops like ours and with the teacher's responses we want to compare our results to other types of informal workshops.
Along with this research I have been working on an online enhancement that can allow the kids to continue with the lesson plan outside of class. The online enhancement consist of a simulation that allows the kids to move the simulated robot depending on the six options given. With this the kids can program and test different directions and build different shapes like we do with the real robot. This can work as a homework assignment or another in-class assignment depending on what the teachers decides.

The simulation will be part of an activity that the kids can complete online which will consist of making a certain shape or letter or both depending on what complexity they want. I am really looking forward to our first event and more updates will be posted with how our outreach event went.
